Rail Transport
With the opening of the Konkan Railway network, travelling to Goa
has become a pleasure. In addition, one can do justice to Goa's
fantastic scenery only when you take the rail route. A II class
ticket from Mumbai to Goa is priced at Rs 200/- and a I class, Air-conditioned
sleeper costs around Rs 800 - 1,000/-.
By Rail: Direct trains to Mumbai, New Delhi, Ahemedabad,
Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi, Chennai and also Mangalore (via the Konkan
Railway Corporation Section).
Road Transport
The most economical way to get to Goa, is however, to take a bus,
if in Karnataka or Maharashtra. To both Mumbai and Bangalore (two
of the major cities, closest to Goa), the journey takes 12-15 hrs
and is usually tedious, especially if you are not used to frequent
travelling by bus.
By Road: Goa is connected by good, motorable roads, with
all the major towns in India via National Highways NH4A, NH17 and
NH17A.
