Mission Impossible II
Mission
Impossible II directed by Brian de Palma in 1996 is a complex film
that ties itself in knots. Like Mel Gibson’s Lethal Weapon series,
M:I-2 will definitely spawn more of the same. A car tango, an exhilarating
bungee jump down a skyscaper, motorcycle jousts, a bird’s eye view
of Sydney and its numerous attractions and bingo, the movie is accelerating
on Cruise-control!
Tom Cruise and John Woo, two of the most compelling figures in
the world of film, have teamed up for "M:I-2, "
a romantic action thriller that plunges special agent Ethan Hunt
into an international crisis of terrifying magnitude.
With computer genius Luther Stickell (Ving Rhames) at his side and
a beautiful thief (Thandie Newton) on his mind, Hunt races across
Australia and Spain on what seems like an impossible mission - to
stop a villain before he can fulfill his own destructive mission.
Wonder how the never-ending James Bond series will tackle Cruise in
his Bond avtaar.
Directed by: John Woo
Cast: Tom Cruise, Thande Newton

Dhai Akshar Prem Ke
A
film inspired by the Keanu Reeves-starrer A Walk In The Clouds,
Abhishek Bachchan plays Karan, an orphan and a captain in the army
who is returning to who he thinks is his sweetheart (Sonali Bendre)
for a vacation. On the way, he encounters Sahibaan (Aishwarya Rai),
a rich man’s daughter, who has told her family that she is already
married to escape a marriage. Karan says that he will go with her
to her house and clear the misunderstanding. He is mistaken to be
the husband. Then the film comes to a standstill. Despite many opportunities
to clear the confusion, Karan is unable to reveal the truth. In
the end he leaves the house, and finds Sonali Bendre already married.
So, he returns to Sahibaan's house and says that he is actually
in love with her. After a routine climax, the lovers unite. Amrish
Puri plays the hotheaded father of Sahibaan. Sooraj Barjatya to
his own peril
realises that the attitude of people change over time. Hum Aapke
Hain Kaun with its traditional values might have worked, but the
same dose met with immediate rejection at the box-office in Hum
Saath Saath Hain. Times have changed. But sadly Raj Kanwar doesn't
seem to realise it. His effort to make a clean and good family entertainer
has turned into an old-fashioned love story.
Abhishek Bachchan has come up with a very restrained performance.
Aishwarya continues to do well in shriek-and-cry roles (her fourth
actually after Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Taal and Humara Dil Aapke
Paas Hai). Amrish Puri as a stern father performs adequately. Anupam
Kher, Harish Patel and Shakti Kapoor as Amrish Puri's younger brothers
have all been wasted and have precious little to do in the film.
An essential ingredient of a family love story is its music. Dhadkan
has managed to sustain itself largely due to its music. But music
is definitely not a plus point in Dhai Akshar…
Director: Raj Kanwar
Cast: Abhishek Bachhan, Aishwarya Rai, Sonali Bendre , Anupam
Kher and Amrish Puri
